ffface is an audiovisual composition devised for virtual collaboration. Composed and expressed by Clara Allison, the work was performed by Bay Area-based interdisciplinary feminist improv collective, fff ensemble, in a livestream concert series in March of 2021. The piece deploys a video of the composer as the score, directing various improvisers to respond and produce sounds according to the movements of hands, application of makeup, and other facets of the video. The visual artists of the collective similarly react and follow the video as directions; however, the material they use is the video itself, resulting in several live manipulations of the score.
